Dream weekends and holidays on the Côte d’Azur
The capital of the Côte d’Azur has all the right ingredients for a sensational getaway in the sun. Perhaps the first thing to greet you in Nice will be the superb Promenade des Anglais, where the waters of the Baie des Anges shimmer in the sun. More than a simple place to walk, it’s one of the most famous avenues in the world and makes the perfect gateway to Old Nice, where La Dolce Vita reigns supreme!
The colourful red and yellow streets that stretch out around the market of the Cours Saleya will guide you to the neighbourhood’s chapel. And what a chapel it is! Entering the nave of the Chapelle de la Miséricorde in the Cours itself, you’ll find yourself in a flamboyant Baroque setting. Raise your head and admire the opulence of the golden vaults.
Continue your excursion in Nice by heading to the prestigious neighbourhood of Cimiez. This hill boasts remnants of the entire history of the city, for it was here that the Ligurian tribes settled and subsequently the place that the Roman Empire made the prefecture of the Alpes Maritimae province.
A holiday spot for the Russian and British aristocracy at the turn of the 20th century, in Cimiez you can admire one of the first palaces of Nice, constructed in honour of the arrival of the Queen of England – the Regina. The final stop that you’ll reach are two major museums – the Musée Marc Chagall and the Musée Matisse. End your day exploring Nice in the gardens of Cimiez Monastery, where the romantic view will leave you inspired for the rest of your trip.
